    We are looking for people to join our Trainee Conductor training courses in 2019 for Chester and surrounding areas and to maintain our talent pool for future positions.

    What you’ll do

    As a Conductor the view from “your office” changes by the minute and no two days are ever the same. If you’re up for a challenge and want to be in control of your future, then it’s time for a change of scenery!

    You’ll provide a fantastic experience by being at the heart of our services.

    ·         Making sure our trains run both safely and on time

    ·         Helping our customers board our trains

    ·         Make on-board announcements

    ·         Be approachable and generally give a first-class service to ensure our customer’s journey is an enjoyable one.

    ·         Be pro-active in recognising and diffusing potentially difficult situations.

    What else you'll need to know

    We’re here for our customers, whenever they need to travel which means your shift lengths & patterns will vary – so you’ll need to be flexible in your working hours.

    Hours -

    ·         Working an average of 35 hours per week

    ·        Your shift pattern will include early starts/late finishes and also working weekends & Bank Holidays

    There are exciting changes planned for the railway in Wales and Borders which will improve the transport network and offer opportunities for all. We are now looking for individuals who want to be part this journey. 

    As a trainee train driver based at Chester or surrounding depots, you will be at the heart of our business and part of a team which is responsible for ensuring every customer’s journey is an enjoyable one; you will ensure that our customers travel around our network safely and on time while providing a first-class service, every time! 

    You don’t need any train driving experience to apply but you will be very safety conscious, committed to following rules and procedures. You can stay calm and focused, thrive when under pressure and able to think on your feet. You are also approachable and a first-rate communicator.

    How we'll reward you:

    There are 3 stages to the salary scale:

    • Year 1                    £26,822 pa (whilst training)

    • Years 2 & 3           £44,217 pa

    • Year 4                    £49,132 pa (fully qualified)

    Minimum requirements:

    • You must not have defective colour vision

    • You must be willing to work irregular/unsocial hours (inc weekends & Bank Holidays)

    • You must live within a 1 hour commutable distance from your depot

    • You must be over 21 years old

    We currently have exciting opportunites for somebody to join the talent pool for our stations team as Customer Service Advisors in our Chester and surrounding stations.

    As a Customer Service Advisor, you will be the first point of contact for our customers at our stations and will help with anything that they need, so being a people person is a must. One minute you may be helping a customer rush to a train with their bags, the next, researching train times to a small town in North Wales.

    This role offers great variety, as your day will begin by undertaking daily cleaning duties of our fleet and then once the fleet has left the station, it’s on to delivering exceptional customer service to our passengers in the station as well as on the platform.

    The skills you’ll need:

    ·         Customer service skills

    ·         Excellent communication skills

    ·         Ability to remain calm under pressure

    ·         Ability to use your own initiative

    We have an exciting opportunity for a driver to be seconded into a driver instructor role in our Cardiff Mainline depot for a period of up to 12 months.

    Based at Cardiff Mainline depot, this role will allow you to get involved in a range of activities; you will be responsible for delivering driver training/briefing, coaching and supporting drivers who are returning to work, mentoring drivers undertaking route learning, and completing driver assessments where needed.

    You will also provide support and feedback to the Driver Management Team when required.

    You must be a qualified Train Driver, with at least 3 years driving experience and knowledge of routes and traction for the Cardiff Mainline network. You should excel in your current role, have excellent written & verbal communication skills and above all, possess heaps of motivation for the driver role.  You will need to hold or be prepared to work towards the Coaching & Assessor and Presentation Skills awards, as well as having good IT skills.
